Squalane vs. Hyaluronic Acid: Why a Moisturizer Can Contain Both

Squalane and hyaluronic acid do different jobs in skincare. Squalane is an emollient used to soften the skin, while hyaluronic acid is a humectant that attracts and holds water. A moisturizer can include both types of ingredient.

The difference at a glance

Ingredient Main role discussed here What to look for on a label
Squalane Emollient: helps soften skin Squalane
Hyaluronic acid and its salts Humectant: attracts and holds water Hyaluronic Acid or Sodium Hyaluronate, depending on the formula

What is sodium hyaluronate?

Sodium hyaluronate is the sodium salt of hyaluronic acid. The names are related, but the full ingredient list tells you which form is actually in a product. In Skinergy’s cream, that name is Sodium Hyaluronate.

Why use both in one moisturizer?

Moisturizers commonly combine ingredients with different roles. A water-binding ingredient and an emollient can therefore belong in the same cream. Their presence does not tell you everything about texture, how a product will feel, or how it will work for your skin.

The practical question is whether the complete product fits your routine. Choosing a cream containing both can keep your routine simple if you want those ingredients without buying two separate products.

Do I need a separate squalane oil or hyaluronic acid serum?

Not simply to add an ingredient your current products already contain. First review the labels of your moisturizer and serum. If you choose an additional product, follow its own directions rather than assuming every oil, serum and cream has the same application order.

Both ingredient types in Skinergy’s cream

Moisturizing Renewal Cream contains 5% squalane and sodium hyaluronate, along with glycerin, shea butter and copper tripeptide-1. Apply a small amount to clean skin morning and night after serum, as directed.

When comparing creams, read the complete ingredients and directions alongside the highlighted names. Skinergy’s cream contains fragrance; the ingredient list is available on the product page so you can check it against your preferences.
